WASTE

Line1

What is WASTE?

W.A.S.T.E. stands for "WE AWAIT SILENT TRISTERO'S EMPIRE." This phrase is from a novel by Thomas Pynchon, called "The Crying Of Lot 49".

W.A.S.T.E. Products is a Radiohead company which sells Radiohead merchandise.
Their website is at http://www.waste.uk.com/. Don't forget to sign up by clicking on the 'Join w.a.s.t.e.' button to receive messages from the band.

In the words of Melanie from w.a.s.t.e.:
"w.a.s.t.e was started by the band many moons ago when they used the name for the w.a.s.t.e letters they would send fans to let them know what they were doing. The name came from the book 'The Crying of Lot 49'.

From a work point of view we just knew of each other when the time came for w.a.s.t.e to be looked after on a more full time basis. There was no conscious decision for it to be so and everything that has happened just did (I don't mean to be vague but it is exactly how it happened). w.a.s.t.e belongs to Radiohead and we do what is needed by the band to fulfil what they want for their fans. Everything is decided by all five band members but we just help by exploring the avenues for w.a.s.t.e to evolve. The outcome is always a band decision. Stanley is also an integral part of those changes and someone we work with very closely.

In a nutshell! That's It!"
From 1992 to 1998, w.a.s.t.e. newsletters were mailed to fans who signed up. There were 16 in total. You can read them here. W.a.s.t.e. switched to sending e-mails in 1999 to make the service faster. Two emails have been sent since. Click the links below to read them. The first one is from Colin and the second one is from Melanie:

W.A.S.T.E. letter #1 [October 15, 1999]
W.A.S.T.E. letter #2 [December 01, 1999]

Where can i buy Official Radiohead Merchandise?

http://www.waste.uk.com/
This is the official w.a.s.t.e. online catalogue. Lots of neat merchandise. Don't forget to register to receive a merchandise catalogue and the w.a.s.t.e. newsletter (including messages from the band).

Not sure about t-shirt sizes? Here's what Melanie from w.a.s.t.e. has to say:
"Skinnies are tighter fitting - more shaped and come in 34" and 36" chest and will fit a small female/small male respectively......so if you're female and prefer the less tight fit of a skinny then the 36" is good.

The mediums are 36" - 38" chest
The large are 38" - 40" chest
The XL are 42" - 44" chest

If in doubt though order what you think and if it doesn't fit send it back and we'll replace or refund. "

You might also recall seeing an item called "Ansaphone" at the w.a.s.t.e. site. This is actually a historical document of the band up to the release of 'The Bends'. Extraneous paraphenalia also enclosed. Four badges (blue and silver), stickers (set of 16 on a sheet and you get a couple of sheets), poster (printed for OAP1) with all five band members on it. And of course the Answerphone booklet.
